His son, Oscar, is an accomplished Electric and Acoustic Bassist, Trumpet player and Drummer.Spencer has toured, recorded, and performed for over 30 years with some of Canada's most notable musicians, including Cowboy Junkies, Sarah Harmer, The Good Lovelies, Jill Barber, Jeff Healey, and Pat Temple.Oscar has known since he was a child that he wanted to be a musician, and just released an original EP of instrumental music this past December titled Gotta Start Somewhere. Oscar is one of six artists from across Canada accepted into the Isabel Bader Centre’s 2025-26 Imagine Arts Incubator Program. His project will see him play and improvise alongside a group of musicians who are blindfolded to give them a “glimpse into Oscar’s experience as a blind musician".
